Description
Because Tracy's father, Mark Evans, a newspaper columnist, was leaving for Arabia on an assignment, Tracy decided to take his friend Jock Hastings' advice and go down to Hollywood for a screen test. With her beautiful amber-colored eyes, long dark hair, and model's figure, Hollywood agent Jock thought she had every chance of snagging a part in "Candissa," a film in which the exquisite blonde Moira Mills was to star.

Tracy did land a minor part in "Candissa"--but she also landed up to her neck in trouble. Not only was D.H. Drysden head of Continental Studios, and old roue, but everything seemed to be conspiring against Tracy appearing at her best. The make-up man seemed deliberately to try to make her look unnatural and to tone down her beauty. And Moira Mills showed only disdain for her acting ability.

Even the handsome director--Dirk Bradly--appeared to have taken a dislike to her, presumably even before meeting her.
