Miss Annette Courtney spent many years begging for donations from the miserly Sir Nigel Montfort on behalf of the poor tenants residing on his estate. Sir Gerard Montfort is outraged. He knew Uncle Nigel believed him a wastrel, having refused to bestow even an allowance upon him, but he never imagined he would be left vagrant.
