On the very eve of Daryl's big chance in the world of singing, a professional visit she paid to a surgeon was fraught with great consequences.

For Daryl it meant the end of singing for a year; for the widower Doctor Luke, it meant -- in the person of Daryl -- the acquisition for one year of a qualified child nurse for his children.
