Description
Janey had been a devoted companion, secretary, housekeeper and finally nurse to popular T.V. personality Roland Venton, but their marriage had been a disappointment to her in many ways. Now, at thirty-five, she was a widow, with virtually no money and the responsibility of three high-spirited step-daughters; beautiful, reckless Sapphire, clever, self-contained Topsy, who had bitterly resented her father's second marriage, and warm-hearted, talented Emmy, who was determined to break into the world of pop music.
To give the girls a home, Janey took the post of housekeeper-secretary to three unattached farmers; Gay Kelmore, ex-star of show jumping, his handsome, formidable widower brother, Matt, and Matt's son, Steven, a born rebel who loathed farming. Roland's friends told Janey that she was crazy to strand herself and the girls on an isolated farm in Devon, but she yearned to make a completely fresh start.
“Three men? One apiece!” Sapphire said gaily, but unfortunately she and Janey were both drawn to the same Kelmore, and Janey was no summer beauty.
