Gorgeous George — Laura Joyce Moriarty

The Challenger Intermediate School Series is designed to help kids understand their feelings and learn how to cope with difficult situations. Gorgeous George is a story about a young boy who has a weight problem. In fact, George is so heavy that he can't fit into his desk at school. What's worse is that he is the subject of ridicule. The kids make fun of him or ignore him. He knows he makes them feel uncomfortable. George often cries alone in his room and secretly gets sick at night. His mama and his aunts don't know how bad it is and have not come up with a plan to help him out. Destiny is kind to George, however. His Uncle Chester comes to live with George and helps him accomplish what would have been impossible on his own. He helps George gain new hope and find happiness.
