Description
Cudgoe has died several times in the past three hundred years. Now as a ghost he is watching over the Hill, a fictionalized island nation in the Caribbean that has just won its independence. In this magical and exotic tale, after an amateur geologist discovers bauxite deposits under the Hill, the government evicts residents to begin strip-mining, with the intent of using its newfound wealth to build a hotel and golf resort. In an attempt to balance the power between government officials and protesting islanders, Cudgoe and a host of other "ghostly" friends play with the inhabitants by putting clever ideas in their minds, influencing dreams, and interfering with the plans of a corrupt government as they do a mean waltz in altering reality.
