When Billy Bowen's daughter asks Detective Sergeant Gibson to investigate her father's death, he agrees to make a few enquiries to placate her. Soon, however he realises that the daughter has every reason to be suspicious and that Billy's death is linked to events in the past . As his investigation takes him across the UK, he discovers a terrible secret but the body count is rising and no one but Gibson will acknowledge the pattern. Threatened with removal from the case he must outwit both the murderer and his fellow officers.
