As she begins her final year of middle school, Annabelle Turner's world is out of control. Her best friend has moved across country, her beloved grandmother is spiraling into dementia, and her parents want her to enroll in a STEM high school. All Annabelle wants is to attend art school and be left alone.

Then an ethereal being transports Annabelle into a bleak world of colorless faces and frozen landscapes, where her dreams become nightmares. The frozen protector of the Underworld resembles a younger version of her grandmother, and Annabelle begins a nightly battle against an evil queen to set the protector free. When pieces of the world follow Annabelle back into reality, she must risk everything that matters -- her family, her future, and her heart -- to survive.
