Description
"It's not fair. It's just not fair! How can Father make me marry a stranger?" Duchess Constanzia cried, giving her skirt an angry jerk.
"So, tell me about him," her grandmother invited gently.
Constanzia glared out the window, demanding harshly, "What do you mean? His name is Peter Branden, and he will inherit a lot of property. That's all I know -- I've never met him." She flung out her hands in a frustrated gesture. "But you already know that!"
"No, that's not what I meant," the archduchess responded with firm dignity. "Tell me about the man you love."
Constanzia's gaze veered from the window. "How . . . ?"
"I've lived a long time, my dear. When we desperately don't want to do what we should, it's usually because we secretly wish to do something else."
Can Constanzia choose to find joy, even when reality isn't to her liking? Can she trust that God knows all the facts?
