On the afternoon of October 19, 1781, British regiments marched down a road below Yorktown, Virginia, between lines of victorious American troops and their French Allies. As the British marched to an open field to surrender their muskets and flags, a British band played “The Whole World Upside Down.” For the British Empire, that day was truly the world upside down.
