Strange Gods — John Cornwell

Tells the story of a Catholic priest who has lapsed from his vows of chastity and fathered a child. He suffers an enormous spiritual crisis about his own loss of faith and society's decline and volunteers to join a Christian mission in deepest Peru, run by an obsessive Irish Jesuit.
