As far back as she can remember, Marcia Carpenter has secretly adored darkly handsome Gregg Spaniard, son of the wealthy owner of the mist-covered mansion known as Windcliff. And Windcliff itself, located on Teal Island off the coast of Maine, has long filled her dreams.

Now, out of the blue, Marcia's lawyer boss asks her to take some documents to Windcliff for Gregg's signature. Though the prospect thrills her, she soon finds that nothing is as it should be at the mansion. For a young man claiming to be Gregg's cousin tells her Gregg and the servants have suddenly gone away. Next old Joshia Spaniard tries to warn Marcia of danger. Then a sixth sense tells her that every move she makes is being watched by some sinister force. But the real terror is yet to begin...
