Description
Half woman, half cat.
The ancient Egyptians called her Bast. She was a changeable goddess, appearing sometimes in the body of a woman, other times in the form of a cat. Bast also had a dual personality -- one radiating good, the other sheer evil.
Down through the centuries men and women had worshipped the darker side of the goddess. The ancient rituals demanded that a girl be sacrificed to Bast every thirty years. And now, on the remote island where a young New York writer had come to forget the past and look after seven strange but magnificent cats, the Bast worshippers were looking for a new victim to mount the sacrificial altar.
