Dixie Demaris's impossible dream was finally coming true. As a tribute to her dead brother, she was having a resort lodge built on the Arizona land left to him and to her by their grandfather.

Jerold Van Hulen, the hotel manager who was Dixie's boss and frequent date, warned her the new lodge was doomed to failure. C.R. Morgan, the audacious architect/builder who was constructing the resort, said the place would be a big success.
