Ghost of Nighthawk — Jan Pierson

The ghost appears to reside on the second floor of the creepy old Nighthawk Hotel, and Meggie wouldn't be caught dead up there if her best friend didn't need her help. Paige is trapped in an abandoned well and Meggie must rescue her by constructing a rope using the ragged curtains hanging in the windows.

In the frantic process, a curtain rod collapses on Meggie's head. Stunned, Meggie picks up a crumbled note that falls out of the rusty old rod and finds the first clue to the legendary Haggerty gold -- the clue they have been searching for.
