All Slocum wanted in Charlotte's Town was a little rest. But local ranchers are mysteriously disappearing…or being murdered. Thornton Real Estate ends up owning their land, and the sheriff doesn't do a thing about it.
 
Myrtle Gilligan, publisher of the Charlotte's Town Beacon, wants to put Jobe Thornton and his sheriff-for-hire out of business, but her evidence is weak. So she needs help to prove that it's not nice to kill someone for their land -- especially when John Slocum's around to demand payment in blood…
