Description
The trip to the little town of Willow Creek was less than a hundred miles, but for pretty, raven-haired Amy Glenn, it seemed a journey to another world.
Amy was convinced that she was a big city girl, that her future lay with handsome Detroit lawyer Simon Doyle, and that she'd stay in Willow Creek only until her beloved Aunt Jo recovered from her illness. Then Amy met a crusading young newspaperman named T.J. Curits, an emotionally deprived child named Barney, and a host of men and women whose lives and livelihoods were threatened by a scheme of the lawyer who claimed Amy's heart. In the midst of intrigue and danger, Amy learned what kind of woman she really was, what kind of man she could truly love.
It was a bleak day in August, and the bus ride from Detroit to Willow Creek did no hold much fascination for Amy Glenn. It was not a pleasure trip for her, for she was on her way to take care of her Aunt Jo's public-stenography business while the older woman underwent surgery. She hadn't seen her aunt in five years, and although she was fond of her, she knew she would miss the company of Simon Doyle, the man in the city to whom she was practically engaged.
Her insistence that she was in Willow Creek only temporarily met with unconcealed disapproval from the electrically charged newspaper editor, redheaded T.J. Curtis, who had met Amy at the bus stop to deliver her to her aunt. And T.J. was not the only one to express disapproval; in fact, everyone that Amy met had the attitude that she should remain. These people loved their town and were hoping that it would be uplifted by the possible advent of a new chemical plant, thereby making Willow Creek a more prosperous place in which to live.
In her business capacity, Amy learned more about the plans for the plant, but the location had been kept secret so that no one could buy an option of the land and thereby command a higher price from the chemical company. It wasn't until Simon showed up one day expressing great interest in Willow Creek that Amy began to have grave doubts as to where her loyalties lay, and soon she was forced to come to grips with herself in order to avoid a total loss of values.
