Description
Carmen Hernandez is in the running for New Mexico's governor against Darwin Cheyenne, Native-American, who is determined to beat her at her own game. Not until her daughter, Lottie, goes missing, does Carmen realign her priorities, abruptly deciding to put family first. Loyal fans, however, think otherwise. Soon the whole state is in an uproar, with two key goals uppermost: find Lottie and bring her home to mommy, and raise a big enough kitty to put Carmen's campaign over the top.
Adam Temple, sidekick to a federal felon, but a fellow with a heart as big as the sky, rides in on his motorcycle to save the day. Except he also loses his heart and nearly his life before separating and identifying lies from truth and the bad guys from the good.
Adam falls in with a few loyal church members of a cult that is now reduced in size to fewer than a half-dozen odd folk living in tepees out in the desert. They are especially odd because they believe having sex is a sin! The group raises funds through contributions and also by guarding a wind turbine under a federal grant. Years ago, one of two of the women gave birth to Carmen Hernandez, while the whole tiny congregation raised Carmen. Since church doctrine calls sex a big No-No, the cult is obviously dying out. Nor can Carmen's real mom admit she has borne a child against the church's dogma. To save Carmen, and keep her and her child alive, Adam must unravel the cult's deepest secrets before the killer strikes again.
