DIVIDED HEARTS
The love that binds together the lovely Fanette and her husband, Jared McLaury, is put to a severe test when war is declared between the North and South and Jared, a dedicated abolitionist, joins the Union Army. Forced to leave their Virginia City home and to return with Jared to the East, Fanette's resentment grows. A true daughter of the South despite the trace of African blood in her veins, she cannot forgive Jared for abandoning her and their small son in order to cast his lot with the Yankees.
Then Fanette receives word that Jared has been killed in action, and it is as though her world has come to an end. Crushed beneath the weight of her grief, she turns in despair to handsome, wealthy Raoul DuBois whose love for her has never wavered. But deep in her tortured heart, Fanette clings to one shred of hope--that somewhere, somehow, Jared still lives and will return once more to hold her in his arms. . . .
