Redemption — Gerald Duff

In Redemption (a selection from the short story collection Fire Ants and Other Stories by Gerald Duff), an elderly woman recounts the nineteenth century duel she witnessed between her father, a Baptist preacher, and an impudent young man smitten with her. The battle involves a public insult delivered during a church service, Bowie knives (hell held in the hand, as the old woman calls them), and dying declarations of love and satisfaction.
