Weeks of rain in eastern Georgia bring a deluge of all sorts of things -- the most shocking being a body found wedged in the docks of the swollen Metoochie River. Being married to the town cop has its advantages when it comes to sleuthing. Soon, town librarian Biscuit McGee is digging up another mystery in her sleepy Southern town of Martinsville.

Digging, as it turns out, is the operative word, when the skeletons of seven traveling salesmen are unearthed in her backyard. The mystery goes back twenty years, to secrets kept by the former owner of Biscuit's rambling house. But though the murders are in the past, the killer still lurks among them, desperate to keep it all buried. Biscuit's feline companion, Marmalade, has repeatedly warned her about curiosity and what it can do to a cat...and humans, too. Unfortunately for Biscuit, a desperate killer intends to make that lesson permanent.
