The Visitation — Elna Stone

It was early autumn in 1947 when the evening calm of Lanier, Alabama, was shattered by a strangely glowing object on the outskirts of town. The few who saw the object didn't remember it, but suddenly nothing was quite the same for them: the reasonably honest farmer who couldn't help telling the truth; the church-going busybody who found her every suggestion accepted immediately; most of all, the young schoolteacher, trying to start a new life, whose touch now could cure the most deeply seated disease. Whether by God or by the Devil, life in Lanier was changing beyond recall, and no one's life would be unaffected.
