The Challoners were a proud and powerful family in Rhode Island during the days of the War of 1812. The Challoner name stood for fleets of trim sailing ships filled with cargoes of rum and riches.

Boston-bred Abigail Singleton was happy to find work with the family and even happier to find herself the object of Jet Challoner's desire. Abigail was anxious to teach the beautiful, secluded girl Marnie, who was isolated in a small apartment at the top of the grand family mansion.
