The Happy Door — Elizabeth Rodger

The story is about a beagle and begins with the happy days she spends with her beagle mother, brothers and sisters. When the time comes to leave her mother, she finds herself in a pet shop where she is adopted by a family. At first, she is the center of attention and affection but the interest of the family slowly dissipates until she is considered a nuisance. She is abandoned at a roadside in the cold of winter. Lost in a forest, she survives a blizzard. With her energy and life waning, she has the good fortune to reach a town where she finds shelter in a dog pound. BUT, there is a happy ending!
