Description
This diary of a mixed marriage is written with all Elizabeth Cadell's verve and good humour. The time span it covers is the year following the announcement of Eleanor and Afonso's engagement; with all the intricacies that result from an Anglo-Portuguese, Protestant-Catholic marriage; and the changes that have to be undertaken once the couple has arrived in Portugal.
Eleanor learns to love the new way of life and when she gives birth to a baby boy, all the artificial barriers are thrown down and both families become closely united in their new-found happiness.
