Dr. Michael Brent knew he might be giving up his career as a big-city specialist, and his chance to marry the beautiful and sophisticated Sylvia Denton, when he decided to help out Dr. John Wayne in the small town of Burkeville.

The minute he arrived in Burkeville, he was thrown into a bitter fight with Dr. Hayden who was trying to close Dr. Wayne's hospital and attract patients to his own ultra-modern Hillcrest Hospital.
