Matila Segal was in North-West Australia to see how her dear Uncle Jerry was getting on -- and found out that her uncle was far from well and that the one thing he wanted was to see her safely married, if possible to Dirk Reasoner. But Matty knew something Uncle Jerry didn't -- and that was the reason why Dirk would never trust or respect her, let alone her. Yet before long she and Dirk were engaged. Dirk still didn't love her and she couldn't fathom his reasons for wanting to marry her. But by that time she didn't care; she had fallen in love with him and was prepared to take a chance on the future. Was she being sensible -- or incredibly foolish?
