Duan and Bia: Two Mythical Stories — Dewey Dempsey

This is a revision of two stories originally published in 1997. They both came spontaneously during a period when I was studying Jungian psychology and going on Native American vision quests in northern Arizona and the Four Corners region. My visits to Canyon de Chelly played a major role in their formation. The revision is based on my working with a group of screen writers, which altered some perspectives.

They both are weavings of mythic and mystical material. Duan is set in a place before time, as modern society defines time. Bia has a contemporary setting with a scientific element interwoven with the mystic.
