The Calling of Joshua Rain — David Hughes

In 2014 the Chinese are on the brink of perfecting the science of weather modification as a method of warfare. The plan is to destroy the United States by unleashing all the forces of nature that will soon be at their disposal. As the final field tests are being quietly conducted, the U.S. Ambassador to China receives news of a possible terrorist plot. But his subsequent report fails to convince Pentagon officials and the President, so there is no investigation into the matter. In the hill country of eastern Kentucky, a small-town pastor named Joshua Rain, is told in a dream to expect five people to arrive at his home where he has lived alone since the death of his wife two years earlier. These five visitors - each with a unique talent and his own compulsive dream to travel to Kentucky - along with Joshua, are to come together, devise a plan to thwart the Chinese and travel to central Mexico where the terrorists have established a weather modification laboratory deep beneath the Sierra Madre Occidental Mountains. Meanwhile, the plans of the Chinese are rapidly becoming finalized. A hurricane in the Caribbean; a tornado in Ohio; tremors in New Madrid, Missouri; strange activity in a Yellowstone caldera; unusually heavy rains and snow where such events are uncommon for that time of year; all presage the coming events that will dramatically cripple the United States and reduce it to third-world status. The race to reach the Mexican laboratory and destroy it before the final cataclysmic events can be set in motion is the calling of Joshua Rain and the five. If they fail, the United States will be brought to its knees. The government has turned a deaf ear to the problem and so the welfare of the country is solely in the hands of the six. Speeding toward the mountains of Mexico, Joshua and his charges must use their special skills and abilities, individually and in combination, to devise the one plan that will enable them to defeat the terrorist’s plot. Time is running out and there will be no second chances.
