Description
Lively 92-year-old Martha's Vineyard native Victoria Trumbull is the first to spot the body of her neighbor, reclusive engineer Jube Burkhardt, dead from a tumble off a 200-foot-high cliff. The police conclude it was accidental, but Victoria's suspicions are aroused when she learns that Jube was evaluating the land's suitability for a casino proposed by the local Wampanoag tribal councils--a hotly disputed proposition for the island.
As a motorcycle rally adds fuel to the issue of gambling and tribal politics, the mystery deepens on a personal level for Victoria when a friend dies in a fire set to Burkhardt's home. When a computer turns up missing, and intimate, scandalous details of both victims' private lives are exposed, Victoria pieces together a motive--and confronts a killer quite determined to see her dead.
