One Sword Less — Colin D. Peel

Working on a defence project in a research laboratory, electronic engineer Richard Brendon discovers that he has become part of the cold war. Agonisingly, Brendon is required to balance the lives of his wife and children against co-operation with a foreign power. Forced to use his technical expertise to further a plan to precipitate nuclear war, he takes desperate action to prevent the project and save millions of people from certain destruction.
