The Mexican Mantilla — Cleo M. Stephens

Rebecca Saunders, an aspiring young journalist, isn't just shy with men. She's terrified on them! But her fears slowly melt away under the tutelage of Peggy Myers, her vivacious roommate on the cruise that takes Rebecca to Mexico where she will work on a newspaper.

In Mexico, Rebecca acquires complete self-confidence when she becomes a successful columnist and is engaged to Roy Lattimore, a handsome, dynamic archeologist. Then Roy abruptly announces that he cannot marry her because his current project, involving an ancient Indian culture, is a failure.

Rebecca believes he doesn't love her anymore, and all her old fears return--until she had the courage to act, the courage to prove she had truly become a new woman.
