Description
After eleven-year-old Cooper's grandfather, Gran-Dan, gives him and his little sister, Carly, eight yellowed deeds, each to one square inch of the Yukon, Cooper almost forgets all about them. Then Carly drags them out, with plans to create her own magical kingdom of Inchland -- far away from the sad silence of their home, where their single mother stays in bed all day and never smiles anymore.
When their mom comes out of her season of sadness bursting with energy, and begins to act in ever stranger and more manic ways, Carly spends even more time in Inchland. But as their mother's behavior becomes increasingly frightening, Cooper wonders whether imaginary Inchland can really be a true refuge. Can Cooper keep Carly -- and himself -- safe?
