Joan Hudson had never been to the southwestern United States before her marriage to Viet Nam veteran, Cliff Norell. Like almost all visitors, she found the country of deserts and mountains breathtaking in its beauty - and overwhelming in its sense of loneliness, its awe-inspiring ability to reduce a person to a feeling of insignificance before the majestic and uncaring powers of Nature.
But for Jean, the desert was to harbor more: her arrival at her new home was the beginning of a nightmare that never seemed to end!
