Two days after nine-year-old Nellie Adams moves to Illinois from New York, she is sad and lonely because she's lost all of her friends. Her loneliness only gets worse after she meets a mean girl named Agnes. Luckily, she is about to make an amazing new friend - Dawn! Dawn is kind, smart, funny, and has a great sense of adventure. Together, she and Nellie bravely face Agnes and her mean friends, as well as a tough challenge - to get Dawn a dog of her own.
