Walking to Wonderland — Barbara Cartland

Theodore, Duke of Eaglefield is handsome, distinguished and rich, but is bored with his life and with the beautiful women who throw themselves at him. Weary of the social rounds, he sets out to walk from Brighton to his ancestral home, Eagle Hall in Berkshire. Dressed as an ordinary man, he comes across a young woman, who is about to drown herself. He falls in love with the beautiful and lovely Alysia, who fleed from an unhappy marriage.
