Although the official reason Jennifer King was spending her summer vacation at Holiday Cove was to help her aunt and uncle operate their inn there, her personal reason was to get a new perspective on life and particularly on her romance with Mike Jennings, who wanted to marry her.

Jennifer renewed her acquaintance with many of the summer friends she had known at the Cove as a child and met one of the inn's new guests, Troy Alexander, a newspaper correspondent who was at work on a play, Jennifer found herself relaxed and happy with Troy, fishing, beachcombing, dining, and dancing. It gave her the feeling that here was the man she had been searching for. And it made her take a long, hard look at her romance with Mike, who seemed always to have to do the “right” thing at the “right” time.

Jennifer knew that before the summer ended, she would have to make a decision.
