Harry Rice is a sensitive man of the '90s who hopes that a well-placed wisecrack can smooth the way through life's stickier situations. Thanks to the proceeds from his oceanside bar, he can afford to choose wisely in his private investigative work. Unfortunately he doesn't always choose so well.

When he is hired, fired, re-hired and forcefully "encouraged" to keep away from a simple robbery that has turned into a complex case of adultery and murder, a more enlightened individual might rethink his commitment to such a part-time job. But Harry takes his lumps--and there are plenty to be had--in stride while he sift through the facts, makes a few leaps of faith, and, while he's at it, tries to make sense of the sorry state of his love life.
