The Butterfly Defect — Adam Hughes

The butterflies came back when the Gods left. That was the first thing Justin noticed.

The second thing he noticed was that the butterflies congregated around only a few people among the thousands left in the big meadow where the Gods fed the humans.

Justin was one of them.

When the Gods return, Justin and his fellow mutants -- those who did not succumb to the Gods' agricultural experiment -- must find an escape, or die.

But even escape has its price, and Justin learns that his self-preservation may spell disaster for the last bastion of humanity.
