A signed first edition by one of the world's most renowned authors isn't something Poe Baxter can pass up, but she would definitely have passed on the murder connected with this particular copy. When a rare first edition of Rushdie's Midnight's Children became available in the author's hometown of Mumbai, Poe and Beattie book a flight immediately and arrive, only to discover that the book is missing and its previous owner murdered.
