Kate writes the kind of romances she likes to read - rich in accurate historical detail, wit, engaging characters and sensuality - and all with an elegant a turn of phrase, as inspired by the works of Georgette Heyer. Far from prolific, Kate says: "I'd rather my readers had one really good novel to enjoy than a dozen hasty, poor ones".
Kate's own history reads like a novel, in that she married a viscount - the stuff of many a Regency romance. Sadly, it wasn't a match made in novels, and ended in an amicable divorce. But when a handsome, young shepherd moved in next door to her cottage, Kate got a second chance at love. They've been together and blissfully happy for nearly twenty years.
At twelve years old, Kate read Pride and Prejudice, curled up on the deep-set windowsill of a holiday cottage in Brittany. Long after bedtime, she held the book up to catch the dying light of midsummer dusk because she was absolutely hooked. That was the moment Kate decided she wanted to become a writer, but it would be another forty years before she would fulfill that ambition.
