Never a Day So Bright — Kate Aitken

Kate Aitken is best known for her Cookbook and also for her work as Director of Women's Activities for the Canadian National Exhibition in which she planned and coordinated the fashion shows of the leading clothing designers in Canada at the time. At one point she earned the distinction of being one of Canada's 10 best dressed women. She had her own radio show. This is her childhood autobiography of growing up near Beeton, Ontario.

The famous radio personality, Kate Aitken, is the Katy Scott of this book, one of a family of five boys and two girls. In the early 1900's her father, Robert Scott, was one of the prominent citizens of the village of Beeton, Ontario, where he ran a general store. Here everything from mousetraps to millinery was either sold for cash or traded to the farmers in exchange for produce.

In this nostalgic, fascinating book, Kate Aitken tells the story of a rich and satisfying childhood. of sliding down snowy hills in winter, and hitching rides behind the farmers' sleighs; of spring cleaning, with the whole family pitching in; of berry-picking in summer, and dips in the swimming hole. Never a Day So Bright is full of loveble characters; but most memorable are Father and Mother, kindly, upright, God-fearing, loved and honoured by their children and the community. One can not read of them without a glow of affection and respect.
