Jack Coughlin was born on 12th January 1966. He is a retired Gunnery Sergeant of the United States Marine Corps, and is the author of the autobiographical book ‘Shooter’
He was born and raised in Waltham Massachusetts, and has four older sisters. At a young age Jack was temporarily blinded in his right eye (his dominant eye used for shooting) when a sharp rock hit it. The eye eventually healed and his sight in the eye improved to an above average visual acuity of 20/19. He enlisted in the Marines in 1985 and completed his recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. He later attended Scout Sniper School. Coughlin originated the concept of the Mobile Sniper Strike Team, which he employed in Iraq to great effect. While in Iraq, he received his second Bronze Star with valour device. When he returned from Iraq, he retired from the Marine Corps.
