Outpost Hospital
Nurse Katherine Marlowe accepted a lift from Dr. Mark Charlton as she left the Nurses' Residence, and was astounded to hear him say, “I'm leaving Grinsley Hospital. I'm going to Africa, and I want you to come with me.”
He went on to explain. “I'm not satisfied with the work I'm doing here where I don't feel I'm really needed. But there are places where I could feel I was doing vital work. In West Africa, for instance there are thousands of people without a chance of medical help when they need it. So that's where I'm going to Nigeria in fact. I'll need an assistant, for though I shall recruit African nurses to help, of course, I must have someone with me at the beginning, and I think you're the sort of partner I need.”
Although Katherine did not give the doctor her answer immediately, she knew she could not turn down the chance to share such a venture with the man she had come to love.
