Albuquerque, New Mexico, is under attack from the air, and the last broadcast Kim hears tells her even larger cities are being obliterated. Dodging the devastation, she races to join her partner Ray in the mountains to the east. They have only minutes to grab what they need and “get out of Dodge.” Friends join the struggle to hide and survive but, to stay safe, the small group must piece together clues about why and how the world around them is being systematically destroyed. All will face unexpected moral dilemmas. Ray's daughter faces other perils as she and her boyfriend undertake a cross-country trip from Florida to join Kim and Ray in the Pecos Wilderness. This is not a hand-to-hand combat, weapons-heavy novel. It is the story of ordinary people using real-life skills in the backcountry as mysterious attacks begin to wipe out most of the world's population. They must calm their panic to think clearly about immediate survival needs, places of safety, and preparing for long-term survival. Preparedness and survival knowledge are woven into this action-adventure novel. Would you know what to take if you had minutes to escape an "end of the world as we know it" crisis or a natural disaster? Do you have a “bug-out bag?” Would basic wilderness skills allow you to survive away from urban comforts? A sequel will be released in early 2013.
