Nursing a rich old man suffering from severe arthritis, Jill Arnold accompanies him to the South of France. She meets Ian, an English ex-doctor who is living a hermit-like existence in a tumbledown cottage, and they develop a friendship, despite the fact that he obviously has some dark mystery in his life.
