An Inspector Anthony Slade Mystery
When the submerged body of Harry Eklimalos, a theatre impresario, is discovered in Hyde Park's Serpentine, the investigation is assigned to Detective-Inspector Anthony Slade of Scotland Yard's X2 department, who quickly decides that the case presents a number of puzzling aspects, not the least of which is the fact that the victim, in a conversation with a police sergeant minutes before his death, seemed to have had a premonition of his impending doom. Another unexplained anomaly is that when the murdered man appeared at the residence of a business associate the evening of his death, his shirt front displayed a blood-stain, yet neither blood-stain or corresponding wound were in evidence when the body was examined by the police surgeon. To solve the mystery, Inspector Slade must not only find an explanation for these curious facts, he must also determine a motive, whether it be in the victim's philandering present, or, as seems equally likely, something in his checkered past.
