Karma Millay, recovering from pneumonia in the dry climate of a desert ranch, receives a letter from a long forgotten relative, Sister DeMontfort. Karma is invited to visit her great-aunt at Grangerfjord, in the mountains on the coast of California. She scoffs at the legends of horror surrounding the remote retreat, only to find them terrifyingly true. Upon her arrival at the mountain manor she finds -- not her kindly aunt -- but the mysterious Grangerfjord Monks.
