When Diana Franklin was working at the posh Morely Hospital in San Francisco, she never dreamed that one day she would long to escape her comfortable surroundings and interesting work. But that was before she had met the handsome appendectomy patient and fallen in love. Barry Atwater was a television actor who knew how to use his charm to the fullest--and after he had succeeded in winning Diana's full devotion, he deserted her without compunction.

Diana had been fascinated by the news of the Alaska pipeline project long before Barry came into her life, and now that he had rejected her, her one thought was to get as far away as possible from any reminder of him. She wasted no time in applying for nursing duty on the pipeline project, but time seemed to hang interminably before she received word of her acceptance at the clinic in Valdez, not far from Anchorage.

But before she even had a chance to begin her new assignment, she faced another dilemma. For a plane to Seattle--the first leg of her journey--she learned that the dark, lean man across the aisle who was bantering flirtatiously with the stewardess was none other than Dr. Keith Willis, the man she was to work with in Valdez. And Diana knew, without a moment's hesitation, that the challenges awaiting her in the vast wilderness of Alaska would be matched equally by her future dealings with Keith Willis.
