(Short Story plus a Bonus Novella) "The Sink" is my take on one of Hemingway's better-known stories about hunting in Africa. Needless to say, my more feminist-minded first-readers did not take kindly to it, although others found it to be an insightful portrait of what can go wrong when the interpersonal dynamics within a marriage change in an unexpected way. Yes, personal growth can be dangerous, whether or not the one who does the growing says a whole lot about it."The Chinese Panda Vase" is a near-future science-fiction story about the perils of antique collecting in a police state. There is an old saw to the effect that whenever dictators come to power, the first thing they do is seize the radio station, the newspapers, and the police station. Well, dictators also round up the artists and the historians, the ones they can't buy outright. Next to independent religious institutions, nothing is as dangerous to an authoritarian regime as independent historical thought. Check out Jamie's website at http://www. jamiemcnabb.com.
